Student Support

Our pastoral care and commitment to the wellbeing of every student in our school underpins the very essence of school life.  Our students are encouraged, inspired and empowered to be independent, but there is always someone to listen, support and offer guidance when they need it.

Students can speak to any member of staff or someone from the pastoral team below:

Form Tutors:
Form Tutors should be the first point of contact for pastoral care concerns as they see their tutees every day. The tutors role is to help,  guide and support students on their journey at Hinchley Wood School.

Student Support Coordinators:
The SSCOs role is to provide students with all aspects of pastoral care, including physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Mrs Misto (Key Stage 3) and Mrs Ramnauth (Key Stage 4) are located in the Head of Learning offices for the Key Stage.  Students may be invited to see the Student Support Coordinator by appointment, or students may speak to their form tutor to be referred if they feel that they need support from the Student Support Coordinator.

Head of Learning:
Whilst your form tutor is the first port of call, the Head of Learning is also available to talk through and discuss any concerns students may have with their learning, teaching or mental health.

Should students require help but find it hard to start a conversation, they can visit the Hinchley Wood School website and at the top of the homepage there is a button marked ‘HWS’. This stands for ‘Help With Something’. Students should complete the short form and a member of the pastoral team will aim to get back to them as soon as possible.

Principal First Aider:
Mrs West is our Principal First Aider and she is based in Student Reception.  She is the first point of contact for medical concerns which occur in school.

Prescribed medication that needs to be taken during the day must be left here together with a signed permission form, please see link below.

Students needing to go off-site for appointments during the school day should sign in and out via the attendance office situated diagonally opposite student reception. Parents/carers should ensure students have a note in their planner to verify the appointment.

A gentle reminder that, wherever possible, dental, doctor, hospital etc appointments should be made for out of school hours to minimise disruption to learning.

Please click here for the medication request form

Student Reception is open to students at the following times: before school (8.25 am), morning break (10.40 – 11.00 am), lunchtime (1.00 – 1.40 pm) and after school (3.00 – 3.30 pm); for Fridays the times are 8.25 am, 10.50 – 11.20 am and 1.30 – 2.00 pm, respectively.
